When I started my MBA in January of 2013, all was “right” in
my world. Everyone in my family was
healthy, thriving and pretty much settled.
It probably would have made more sense to wait until the boys were
finished with high school but something kept tickling me and telling me that
now was the time. Perhaps, it was
because I felt like I could do more at work if I had better knowledge; or, perhaps,
it was some innate awareness that my teens needed to see me working toward a
tangible goal.
Unfortunately, my world was turned upside down just a few
months later when my dad was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. The initial
shock and sorrow were heart wrenching and my reaction was to postpone graduate
school and concentrate on my family. You
should know that my dad was a colorful fellow and as such he told me in no
uncertain terms that I was not forgoing school.
He was very proud of me and my accomplishments and he wanted me to continue. He was adamant that he would be around to see
me graduate.
Well, he was right.
And I’m so thankful that my dad was able to attend my graduation from
the University of Louisville. He was present to hear my reflections on the
journey as I addressed my cohort and to hear the praise from my professors. It
is a moment that I will not soon forget as cancer caught up with my family just
three weeks later.
Over the last month since his passing, I have applied
all of my concentration to creating a new business venture, Zingiberis
International or ZI. My goal is to apply my
diverse supply chain background to help other businesses to improve their
processes, optimize their sourcing & planning operations, and enhance their
project execution. It seems apropos to
officially launch my business today on my dad’s birthday. He would be so excited. I can easily imagine him bragging to all of
his buddies over a beer at the Stockwell Inn.
I love you daddy.
Thanks for looking out for me!
I’m proud to say that while not 100% complete, my website is operational
and I distributed my first business cards today. Let the games begin!!
Thanks for all of your love and support!
